CONCERT SCORES

Portfolio

WELCOME

Music listened to at a concert or in a comfy chair with headphones on. Performed by players for the enjoyment of others.  This is the music one expects a composer to write.

HIDDEN GARDEN

A concert wok for an advancing cello student.  I want to create a piece that is fun that people want to play.

My friend Luke Kim provides an amazing cello performance for this recording

SUICIDE

Often, people kill themselves because it is an escape from reality.  They want to make 'it' stop, whatever it might be.  It is really terrible how so many young people simply cannot cope and opt to take their own lives as a strategic means of escape.

JUNGLE BEATS

Most percussion works are primarily groove based so I decided to take a different approach.  I wondered if it was possible, using rhythm and rhythmic motifs, to create a narrative similar to what is commonly associated with pitch and harmony.

WINTER

I love the feeling of snow falling.  I like to walk outside or cross country ski in this weather and it's a breath taking feeling that I tried to create with this piece.

Dan Kocurek plays flugal horn and trumpet for this recording.

JOY FOR SOLO FLUTE

I was commissioned to write a sacred work for flute.  I focused on the idea of joy: even through struggles in life, when things are difficult, and life is a struggle, a feeling of comfort, optimism, and general wellbeing can undergird these trying times.  Joy is happiness that is not circumstantial.
